 Making your party a successMinimize

Happy children make happy parents and a relaxed parent makes a successful party! Whether you are a Martha Stewart mom who likes to do it all herself, or someone who prefers to call in the professionals, there are a few basics that are essential for a successful party.

  1. Theme your party according to your child’s interests and make it age appropriate. A Halloween them will have an 11 year old yelling for more, but scare a 3 year old into never wanting to age another year! Be creative – under 10’s will love an Upside Down and Inside Out party, for example. Get them to get dressed and host the party UNDER the table.
  2. Keep the kids busy. Technology and gadgets may be the theme of the new century, but there is nothing like an old-fashioned treasure hunt or round of pass-the-parcel to keep little ones happy and amused. They can watch a video any other day.
  3. Use entertainers with references. There is nothing more heartbreaking than disappointed little faces when the clown just isn’t funny or the balloon sculptor can’t produce anything better than a snake.
  4. Prepare, prepare, prepare.
    • Have all the food ready the day before if you can.
    • Call in the professionals to set up and take down the décor.
    • Make sure you know how many kids will be there
    • Have enough prizes for the games!
    • Allow enough time – once the party gets going time will fly, so make sure you have allocated enough time for eating, playing and being entertained.
    • Have plasters, wet cloths and anti-histamines on hand.
    • Make sure your pool is covered and no-go zones in the house are locked.
    • Make sure your camera is charged or that you have sufficient film.
    • A good gin and tonic on hand in the fridge may make all the difference to your outlook!

  1. Call in favours from friends. They can keep the mom’s coffee cups topped up, or assist with riot control.
  2. If your party is themed well, your child won’t notice the soggy cup cakes or the flat cold drinks.
  3. RELAX AND ENJOY YOURSELF. You will always be your child’s favourite Mom!
